DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE POSTCARDS

DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE
An abstracted visual system of three postcards designed to advertise for the play of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde at Sacramento State. The post cards portray the themes of duality, identity, and morality of good and evil through the distorted graphics, complimentary colors and divided type. Photographs of paper, hair, spiderwebs, and shadows were used to create the abstracted and distorted imagery. Different photos overlaid on each other, morphed into one image and then cutting that image into three different sized columns create the splitting duality of the characters in the play and emphasize the theme of Dr. Jekyll fighting over control of his identity from Mr. Hyde. While the images and cut type contribute to the chaos, the columns act as containers to the chaos, organizing it and giving it form between it's lines. Each postcard draws attention to a different name from the title, from "Jekyll" to "Hyde" and "DR MR," all while the white text displaying the author of the play keeps balance among the chaos. The san serif typeface contrasts against the craziness of the images behind it as well, providing more structure to the design. All three postcards share the same two colors in their individual color palettes: blue and yellow, while distinguishing themselves from their third color: purple, green and red-orange. By sharing colors between their palettes it helps unify the design of the three postcards, continuing to contribute between the balance of chaos and form within the design.
